My undergraduate and honours studies were in mathematics and computer science. This was followed up with a masters in operational analysis at Stellenbosch University. Previously I was involved at the African institute for mathematical sciences, in Muizenberg, working as a teaching assistant. The most rewarding moments were in technical conversations with students when the penny dropped, for the student or myself. My academic interests are modelling with differential equations and neural networks, and what really excites me are when these techniques deliver real world solutions. Having lived in Muizenberg I have become an avid surfer – the beauty and peace at sunset when sitting on a surfboard in the ocean is addictive. In addition, I love the mountains and climbing or hiking with friends, and travelling to far off lands.
